Mechanic Threads is a family-owned and operated print-on-demand apparel and gear company created for one very specific audience: magicians.
We started in 2019 with a simple problem.
My husband and son, Dave and Jake Rangel, are an award-winning father-and-son magic duo. They spend their lives performing magic, and they wanted shirts that reflected the world they actually work in.
The problem? A lot of magician apparel felt a little... cheesy. We wanted something different. Something a magician could actually wear.
Something clever without being corny. Something that could reference the world of magic without looking like a costume. Something that could work on stage, at a convention, backstage, or just out grabbing a coffee.
So we decided to make it ourselves.
FROM MAGIC TO MECHANIC THREADS
With a background in graphic design, website building, and web hosting, creating the brand was a natural combination of our skills and our love of magic.
In 2019, Mechanic Threads was born.
Our mission was, and still is, to create apparel and gear inspired by the world of professional magic, from the tricks and terminology to the culture and characters that make it unique.
Some designs are subtle. Some are funny. Some are designed specifically for people who know the reference. And some are simply things we think look cool.
But every design starts with the same idea: Make something a magician would actually want to wear.
MADE FOR MAGICIANS
Magic is more than what happens when someone steps onto a stage.
It's the late nights practicing a move.
The conventions.
The magic shops.
The decks of cards that somehow multiply in your backpack.
The inside jokes.
The terminology that makes absolutely no sense to everyone else.
The characters and performers who shaped the art.
And all the little things that make the magic community what it is.
That's what we want Mechanic Threads to celebrate.
We're not trying to make clothing that says “Look, I'm a magician!”
We're making clothing that makes another magician look twice and think:
“I know exactly what that means.”

And together, those perspectives help us create something that feels authentic to the community we're part of.
